DAILY QUESTION Partner opens with one-NT and the next plaver passes. You hold: A 9 7 6 3 6 8 3. What do you say? ANSWER: Bid three spades. The forcing response is the same whether partner opens with one-NT or whether be overcalls with one-NT, because cither bid shows the same 16 to 18 point hand. Your jump response invites came in spades if partner has three or more spades; other-1 wise he bids three-NT.

A large fund for state-wide projects to help handicapped or impoverished children, youth, or elderly persons will be estab lished by Kiwanis Indiana Foundation Inc.

Past District Governor Lorin J. Badskey, North Manchester, foundation president, announced the venture yester day at the 50th anniversary convention of the Indiana District of Kiwanis International at South Bend. Programs planned by the non-profit organization, Bads key said, include grants in aid for youngsters lacking educa tional funds, aid for care of handicapped or impoverished children, and providing of comforts for unfortunate old er persons. More than 8,000 Kiwanians and their friends were invited by Badskey to contribute money and securities, and make bequests in their wills for the program. Expansion of the founda tion's assets for such projects will provide a new challenge for service by Kiwanians and fnena, Badskey said.

The aid will be extended without regard to race, color, or creed. Pronghoms Have Far More Speed Than Men By RAMON COFFMAN 0 Mi. N. SUtt Rd. 37 mi Jet.

The usual animal with hollow horns keeps them year after year, but the pronghorn sheds them once a year. That is in the manner of male deer, which change their solid antlers each year. FEW ANIMALS can rival the pronghorn in sharpness of sight. When it sees wolves, cougars or other enemies, it dashes away at high speed. Young pronghorns have been captured from time to time, and have been kept as pets.

One man owned pronghorn which, even after becoming well-grown, ysed to walk into his house and roam about the kitchen and living room. Back came a heart to dummy's ace. South took the ace of spades, won a finesse with the jack of clubs and ran the clubs to get rid of a heart. But South eventually lost three diamonds.

Down one. I South went wrong when he took the spade finesse at the second trick. The opening lead of the jack of hearts showed that East had the queen and West needed all of the missing high cards for his opening bid. The spade finesse couldn't possibly work and South gave up 'a chance to make his contract when he let West take the king of spades too early. SOUTH SHOULD take the ace of spades at the second trick, take the club finesse and discard a heart on a high club.

Then he cashes the ace of hearts and ruffs a heart. Only then is it time to put West in with the king of spades. If West returns a diamond, South gets a trick with the king. If West leads a heart (or if he could lead a club), dummy ruffs, while South throws a diamond. Since West started with only two trumps he cannot get out safely with a low trump.

This antelope would leave an Olympic champion runner far behind in a race.

The pronghorn can travel several hundred feet at a speed of a mile a minute. It slows down a little on a long run, but can cover two miles in about three It is faster than a greyhound, which does well when it runs half a mile in a minute. IN PIONEER DAYS, prong-horns were common on the plains in western parts of Canada and the United States. Today they are found on some of these plains, but they wander in a much smaller area. They like hilly country, but steer clear of the high parts of mountains.

Pronghorns: are the only antelopes which are native to North America. Hunters cut down their number1 until about 60 years ago it was estimated that only 19,000 existed in the United States and Canada.
