OCTOBER 5, 1970 Fatalities For Weekend On Roads Rise To 16 STAR STATE REPORT The deaths of four persons killed yesterday on Indiana roads has raised the state's weekend traffic toll to 16. Five other persons were killed late Saturday, state police reported, and a Dearborn County man died in an Ohio accident. Those killed were: George H. Doenges, 83, Fort Wayne. Linda Spannan, 22, Carmel.

Harold Tolson, 44, New Paris, Ohio. Kenneth W. Plummer, 53, Owensboro, Ky. Gladys Ewart, 66, Demotte. Fay Curtin, 61, Demotte.

William D. Cottongim, 16, Richmond. Dennis Rust, 18, Marion. George Griffith, 63, Bowling Green. Tracy L.

Smith, 23, Lawrenceburg. George H. Doenges, 83, Fort Wayne, died at 4 a.m. yesterday in Fort Wayne's Parkview Memorial Hospital of injuries suffered two hours earlier when struck by a car. Police said Doenges, a patient in the Turtle Creek Nursing Home on Fort Wayne's south side, walked out of the nursing home under heavy sedation into the path of a car.

The driver, whose name was not released, was not held. Linda Spannan Linda M. Spannan, 22, Carmel, was killed at 12:45 p.m. yesterday in a two-car crash on U.S. 31 in southern Hamilton County.

State police said a car driven by Deanna J. Eidson, 31, 1 West 28th Street, slid broad'side against the Spannan auto as Miss Eidson lost control of her car when the right wheels slipped off the highway. Services for Miss Spannan, an employe of the Wabash Life Insurance Company, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Smith Funeral Home at Carmel with burial in Carmel Cemetery. Survivors include the father, Harold Spannan of Plainfield and the mother, Mrs.

Joyce Spannan of Carmel. Harold Tolson Harold Tolson, 44, New Paris, Ohio, died at 1 a.m. yesterday in Reid Memorial Hospital at Richmond of injuries suffered 35 minutes earlier in a two-car collision on Ind. 227 about miles south of Middleboro in Wayne County. State police said a car driven by Theodore May 36, Richmond, veered across the center line and struck the Tolson head on.

Cottongim, 16, Richmond, died in Richmond's Reid Memorial Hospital early yesterday of injuries suffered Saturday in a two-car accident on a Wayne County road about 3 miles southeast of Richmond. State police said Cottongim's car and an auto driven by Samuel Reece, 52, Richmond, collided head on at the crest of a hill. Reece and seven other persons were injured. Services for Cottongim, a junior at Richmond High School. will be held at 1:30 p.m.

Tuesday in the Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home at Richmond with burial in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Survivors include the parents, Mr. and Mrs. John tongim. Dennis Rust Dennis W.

Rust. 18, Marion, was killed late Saturday in a car-truck crash about 2 miles south of Noblesville on Ind. 37. State police said the northbound Rust vehicle went out of control, skidded across the center line, sideswiped a pickup truck and crashed head-on against another pickup truck. Five persons were injured.

George Griffith George Griffith, 63, Green, was killed late Saturday he lost control of his car and it veered off Ind. 59 just south of Ashboro in Clay County and crashed into a 15- foot-deep ditch. Tracy L. Smith Tracy L. Smith, 23, Lawrenceburg, was killed late Saturday when he lost control of his speeding car along a western Ohio road and it crashed against a tree.

Deaths In U.S. ALFRED SHEPPARD DASHIELL, 69, managing editor of the Readers Diaest from 1940-57, Saturday at CrotonOn-Hudson, N.Y, Legion To Seek Bonus For Those Serving Since '60 A committee of the American Legion, Department of Indiana, announced yesterday it will ask the 1971 Indiana General Assembly to pay bonuses to Hoosiers who have served in the United States armed forces since Jan. 1, 1960, a measure that could cost $30 million. Also, the Legionnaires said they will co-operate with TriState College at Angola to collect $4 million to construct a memorial building to house papers of Gen.

Funds would be dedicated from cigarette tax, a spokesman said. Similar bonuses were given World War II and Korean War veterans. Homes Parade Attendance Up Members of the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis reported sharply increased attendance during the 23d annual Parade of Homes tour which ended yetserday. Newspaper Strike Ended In London London (AP) -London's newspapers ended a two week wage dispute with packers and drivers Saturday but the settlement came too late to permit home delivery of yesterday's editions. The new contract gives packers and drivers an increase from $53.78 a week to $58.80.
