In the early '60s, Mlfune established his own company, Mifune Productions, and directed Gojuman no lsan (The Legacy of the Five Hundred Thousand).

Mifune gave Kurosawa credit for his success as an actor, and many critics agree he did his most subtle work under the director. Kurosawa's Rashomon won International fame for Mifune. as well as the 1951 Academy Award for Best Foreign Film. Mlfune also took the prize for best actor In two Kurosawa works at the Venice Film Festival Yojlmbo in 1961 and Red Beard in 1964. But the next year the two men had a falling out, a subject both usually declined to discuss.

Mlfune later leaned toward television and foreign films, such as Hell in the Pacific (1968) with Lee Marvin and Midway (1976). "I'm not always great In pictures," Mifune was quoted as saying in 1984. "But I'm always true to the Japanese He had kept up a dizzying pace of acting and appearing at film festivals worldwide, and was hospitalized In 1992 for overwork. of hundreds of millions of people throughout the world. Dear Billy Graham: I come from another country and another religion, but I would like to ask you a question: What Is Christmas all about? Does It meaning, as some Graham people have told me? From what I can tell, it doesn't seem to me that most people look at It that way. K.V.
