Gross was a member of the Indianapolis Press Club since 1940. when he worked as a reporter and copy editor for The Indianapolis News. He was a 1939 magna cum laude graduate of Swarthmore College and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Mr. Gross was a member of the school's track team.

He cofounded the International Philosophical Quarterly in 1960. Mr. Gross' involvement In civic activities Included serving as consultant to the Indiana Civil Rights Commission, member of the Mayor's Human Rights Commission, board member of the Indianapolis Roundtable of Christians and Jews and charter member of the Catholic Interracial Council. A co-founder of the Meridian-Kessler Neighborhood Association in 1965, he became its president In 1967, and was later a member of the Butler-Tarklngton Neighborhood Association. Mr.

Gross was also a former president of the Indiana Association for Mental Health and a member and former president of the Marian College advisory board. He died Monday. During a 34- Mr. Gross career in advertising and public relations, Mr. Gross worked at several local agencies, retiring in 1979 as vice president of the advertising agency Carlson and Co. He got his start in the local advertising arena in 1945 as creative director and account executive for Sidener and VanRiper now Caldwell-Van-Riper Inc.

He went on to own and operate his own advertising and public relations agency, Mark Gross and Associates, beginning in 1947. In 1961, Mr. Gross and former Gov. Haroia w. nanaiey lormea me aaver-tislnff firm of Handlev.

Jenkins, 66, Port Charlotte, formerly of Indianapolis, a retired teacher, died Tuesday. There will be no services or calling. Mr. Jenkins had taught English 25 years at North Central High School, retiring in 1987. Previously, he taught English at Holmes High School in Covington, Ky.

Mr. Jenkins had been president of the Indiana Council of Teachers of English and received the E. H. Kemper McComb Award for his teaching accomplishments. He received bachelor's and master's degrees from Xavier University and a doctorate from the University of Tennessee.
