The Rev. Rigdon established the church in 1945 and served as minister until 1953. From 1953 to 1966, he served as a traveling evangelist in North and South America, and he also served churches in Ohio and Missouri. He returned to Mooresville Church of God in 1967, serving until retirement in 1979. After retiring, he was interim minister for Emerson Avenue Church of God.

He also founded and built South Meridian Street Church of God, where he served as pastor at large. Services will be at 11 a.m. Oct. 12 in Mooresville Church of God. Calling will be from 4 to 9 p.m.
