The show was more visual than auditory as the unshorn generation paraded across stage in leather pants, 5-inch wide fluorescent ties, lace-cuffed polka-dot shirts and double-breasted top coats.

Anparently most of the scream ie boppers were clustered at the stage door or wandering around in the dressing rooms trying to get a glance at their idols, because the applause following each number was little more than perfunctory. During intermission the word was out that Pitney was not on the scene, and H-" Lot MM' A i icious Tosca' Spc A model of Rudolf Heinrich's impressive design of the first act of Puccini's "Tosca" for Sarah Caldwell's American National Opera Company illustrates the church setting's spaciousness. AH flights to his home Connecticut were canceled, but after several hours of hair tearing he found a shuttle flight to New York. The flight out of New York was can celed, and he did not make it to the hospital until 10 a.m. Saturday. "Getting to the hospital didn't do me any good." he confessed. "I looked through the window in that room where they keep all the babies and I couldn't tell which one was mine." He finally round the right one a 7 pound, 6 ounce son named Todd but he had little time for father-son talks if he was to make a 7:30 p.m.

Cnicata Duty News Service LONDON Pablo Picasso's refusal to enlighten the world as to the meaning of his huge new Chicago sculpture reminds Europeans of his attitude toward the huge mural which he donated to UNESCO to decorate the foyer of its Paris headquarters. Serious students found it incomprehensible and not a few found it positively obscene. But Picasso still refuses to explain what it was all about.

A popular explanation is that the old man was so sick and tired of being badgered by UNESCO officials for a free contribution that he deliberately produced a mammoth piece of nonsense. Another was that he meant the mural to be as incomprehensible as UNESCO itself, which has been criticized for embarking on a long series of nonsensical and expensive programs. York was grounded because the radar at Kennedy airport was on the blink. However, he caught a later flight and a police escort from Weir Cook got the star of the show to Clowes in time for the second performance. Singing the best-sellers "Town Without Pitv." "Only Love," "24 Hours From Tulsa" that have made him an old-timer in a pop music world where few manage to keep on top very long, he did the show as if nothing out of the ordinary had happened.

The former tobacco picker from a small town in Connecticut received full approval from the standing-room-only audience gathered in Clowes. The show will be performed again tonight at 6:30, and about 100 tickets are still up for grabs. It could get rather entertaining, since the American National Opera Show is scheduled to have a rehearsal, using its sets at the same time. Matinee) 2:00 P.m7 I Tonight 8:15 P.M.
