Lowes was employed with New York Central at the Beech Grove Shops 42 years before retiring in 19S7. He was a member of Moose Lodge 17 and Wallace Street Presbyterian Church. Services will be tomorrow at 2 p.m. in Stirling Funeral Home. Survivors wife Frieda; Mrs.

(AP) -David Lawrence, editor and founder of U.S. News and World Report and a widely syndicated columnist with a conservative viewpoint, i dead at 84. Lawrence apparently f-fered a heart attack at his winter home here and was dead on arrival yesterday at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, a spokesman said. He began his journalism career at the age of 14.

At one time, his columns appeared in 300 newspapers a 0 the country. His news career spanned 60 years and 11 presidential administrations. The veteran Washington correspondent had pioneered the United States Daily, a newspaper devoted to the ac-t i i i of government. In 1933, the daily was superseded by a weekly, the United States News, which carried an editorial page with his articles. Lawrence founded World Report, an international affairs magazine, in 1946.
