April 16, the. little planet that has been; watched so' closely by astronomers lately on account of Its nearnees" to the earth.i has recently takeo oqajv addltloaal Interest. Until' within a short ilme Eros has been observed simply on account of its by means of which it Is hoped to determine more closely the distance between the earth and the sun. Thjs spring the planet has shown marked changes in light, and Is the first oK the asteroids In which, variation of light has been firmly established. It has li en found by the Harvard observers tiat the intensity of the light changes Fbnietlmes two or three times In as many hours.

This Is accounted for In. two ways. Some astronomers think that one aide of the planet Is dark and the other light, and that as it revolves first the light and then the dark side is presented to the watchers on earth. Other observers, and erpectally those, in Europe, believe that the planet Is double, and that the two spheres so revolving around one another first present their combined light and then only the light of one. The planet la believed to revolve in five hours.

NO FUNDS AVAILABLE. Money Can Not be Expended in Tracing Fugitives. Special to The IndianapolU News. LOGANSPORT. April 16.

No steps have been taken to apprehend George P. Chase, the absconding attorney, nor is it probable that any effort will be made to effect his capture, for the simple reason that nobody is Inclined to advance money to defray the Chase's ewlndllngs ana debts will amount to probably $8,000, but even the lotjers decline send good money after the bad. This Is the second Instance In which a lack of funds has defeated Justice. Under the reform law not a dollar Is available In Cass county for procuring evidence in criminal cases. Under the old law county commissioners might use their discretion in offering rewards and setting aside expense furtds, but it is useless to do tt now because the County Council will not make the appropriation.
